How We Source and Grade Ethiopian Green Coffee

Greenbean-coffee sources Grade 1 Specialty Arabica directly from washing stations and cooperatives in Yirgacheffe, Guji, Sidama, Limu, and Jimma. Every lot is graded to ECX standards, cupped by a certified SCA Q Grader, and ships only if it scores 84 points or above.

How Does Greenbean-coffee Source Its Coffee?

Greenbean-coffee sources directly from washing stations and smallholder cooperatives across five Ethiopian origins — Yirgacheffe, Guji, Sidama, Limu, and Jimma. We visit partner stations each season to assess quality, verify processing standards, and build seasonal supply schedules for our wholesale buyers.

Smallholder farmers — most farming plots of less than one hectare — deliver freshly harvested cherry to communal washing stations. We work directly with selected stations in all five regions.

What Quality Checkpoints Does Every Lot Go Through?

Every lot passes three checkpoints: wet and dry milling at the origin washing station, export grading at the ECX facility in Addis Ababa to confirm Grade 1 classification, and pre-shipment cupping by a certified SCA Q Grader. Only lots scoring 84 SCA points or above are approved for export.

Every lot goes through three quality checkpoints before being offered to buyers.

01

Wet and Dry Milling

Coffee cherry is pulped, fermented, washed, and dried at the origin washing station according to the lot's processing method.

02

Export Grading

Lots are graded at the ECX facility in Addis Ababa to confirm Grade 1 classification under Ethiopian export standards.

03

Pre-Shipment Cupping

A certified SCA Q Grader cups every lot before shipment. We only export lots scoring 84 SCA points or above.
